Ana-Maria Arriagada, PhD, is a senior-level international development professional with extensive expertise in the areas of human development policy, strategy, and organizational management. At the World Bank she has been Director of the Human Development Department for Latin America and the Ca-ribbean; Director of the Performance and Development Department, where she developed a new business model for staff and managers’ skills development for the entire organization; and Chief Learning Officer, overseeing knowledge management and training for more than 10,000 staff and 120 offices worldwide. She twice received the World Bank’s President “Excellence Award” for cutting-edge work with country clients, as well as “Best Man-ager” award from the World Bank Staff Association in recognition of her collaborative leadership approach and managerial contributions to the many units she headed. Dr. Arriagada’s programs focus on poverty, social protection, education, health, and nutrition. Her recent work has been primarily in Indo-nesia and South Africa, and she serves as a Board Director and expert on alternative models to deliver social services to the poor for several leading international development organizations. A graduate of the Catholic University of Chile, she has a MA and PhD in Economics from American University.
